After an unbeaten start to the season, the U14A were hoping to extend this excellent run after their impressive victory over Stonyhurst College at the weekend. However, it would not be easy as they travelled to Kirkham GS for a tough U14 Lancashire Cup match.
AKS started strongly and patiently worked the ball up the field. The forwards have been the cornerstone of the team so far and this continued, with the forwards dominating the loose ball in the first half. Early on the forwards combined well with the backs and AKS took the lead as Fraser Stanier scored the first of his three tries.
This lead was increased as the impressive Josh Moreau, who was dangerous whenever he got the ball, scored an excellent try to push AKS further ahead. Stanier added his second and third tries as AKS continued to control the first half, and as the half-time whistle went, AKS led 24-5.
Kirkham fought back well in the second halfand they played some good rugby but captain, Ryan Evans, slipped through from the base of a ruck to run in a superb individual try. Kirkham continued to press and they scored two well deserved tries before the final whistle to make the final score 29-15 to AKS.
This was an excellent match played between two very good sides in an superb spirit..
