Arnold School U13s progress in Lancashire Cup

Arnold School's U13A won through to the next round of the Lancashire Cup with a very impressive victory at home to a tough and determined Audenshaw School side from Manchester.
They started perfectly and within 20 minutes they were 19-0 ahead. Sam Royle got the first try after some excellent driving play by Rory Douglas, Zac Evans and Roshan Mohindra. Royle picked dynamically from the base of a ruck and he blasted through the Audenshaw defence from 15 metres out. Callan Barrow added a good conversion from wide out.
A few minutes later the U13A scored again, as a deep kick from Ellis Whorlton-Jones, had the visitors in all sorts of trouble. Tom Riley and Sam Royle chased the kick superbly and after a quick turnover in the tackle it was Whorlton-Jones who was on hand to sprint through and touch down wide out on the left. Matthew Barrett's astute pass putting him in space to dash in for the score. Barrow added another excellent conversion from the touchline and Arnold were 14-0 ahead.
Audenshaw worked hard to gain some territory in the Arnold 22 but another huge clearance from Whorlton-Jones saw the away fullback caught in possession and after a few phases and another turnover, some good charges from Bill Gavin and Jonah Lonberg resulted in Whorlton-Jones racing down the right touchline to score his second for a 19-0 lead at half time.
With the wind at their backs in the second half, it was Audenshaw who enjoyed the greater territory for the last 25 minutes but good Arnold defence, in particular from Tom Riley, Jamie Bamber and Ben Pearson, kept Audenshaw at bay as they put together some promising attacks.
Audenshaw did score off the final play of the match for a deserved score but it was the U13A who progressed to the second round after a fine performance.
